2009 Lincoln Town Car Coil Springs Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace Front Suspension Coil Springs on 2009 Lincoln Town Car?
A: The first step in front suspension coil spring replacement consists of removing the wheel together with its attached tire. Do not uninstall the shock absorber center nut because spring tension will be released which creates a significant threat of injury. The three shock absorber upper mount nuts should be disposed before any procedures begin. The caliper and anchor plate assembly should never be allowed to hang from the brake hose since this could result in damage. Securely support the assembly with mechanic's wire while removing its two bolts. Next, remove the brake disc. Utilize the hex-holding function to stop the stud from rotating before removing the stabilizer bar upper link nut and then proceeding to discard the stabilizer bar link lower nut and stabilizer bar link. First disconnect the wheel speed sensor wiring harness retainer from the wheel knuckle then dispose the upper ball joint nut as well as the shock absorber lower nut and flag bolt. Take off the shock absorber in addition to the spring assembly. Begin with shock absorber and spring assembly installation before loosely attaching the new lower nut and flag bolt. Tighten the new upper ball joint nut to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft) torque value. Reinstall the wheel speed sensor wiring harness to the wheel knuckle while you position the stabilizer bar link and then apply the two new nuts by tightening the lower one to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) while the upper one gets tightened to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft). The brake disc should be placed first and the brake caliper and anchor plate assembly needs to be positioned afterwards before securing both anchor plate bolts at 160 Nm (118 lb-ft). First reinstall both wheel and tire then install and torque the three new shock absorber upper mount nuts to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft). Under weight conditions put on the wheel and tire assemblies tighten the shock absorber lower nut to 235 Nm (173 lb-ft).
