You should start the timing cover service and repair by first disconnecting the battery ground cable and then removing the
Water Pump. Begin the service by lifting and supporting the vehicle and then remove the crankshaft pulley before disconnecting the wires which lead to the
Crankshaft Position Sensor. The first step at the front of the
Oil Pan requires removing a bolt from both left and right sides before lowering the vehicle. Proceed by removing the camshaft synchronizer followed by the accessory drive belt idler pulley and then by the accessory drive belt tensioner. After cleaning both the water pump mounting studs and the crankshaft front oil seal operators should remove the front cover and its gasket while also getting rid of the hidden cap screw to protect the front cover. The gasket mating surfaces must be cleaned without using a fiber disk to minimize contamination followed by shop-towel packing of the oil pan opening and inspection of the gasket surfaces. Engine front cover installation requires first applying silicone gasket and sealant to the oil pan to block seam then adding the engine front cover gasket followed by another sealant bead along the gasket edge at the front cover. Position the bottom edge of the cover onto the oil pan then raise it upward until it sits into place. Place the new water pump mounting studs inside the engine while Loctite(R) has already been applied to them. The sequence for tightening engine front cover nuts and bolts consists of three stages where you start by attending to bolts 1-11 and 13 to 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.), move onto bolt 12 to 25 Nm (89 inch lbs.) before finally torquing bolts 1-11 and 13 an additional 90 degrees. After putting up the vehicle once again you should install the bolts to complete the process. First drain engine oil then reconnect Crankshaft Position (CMP) sensor wiring and put in the crankshaft front oil seal and crankshaft pulley before finishing the procedure. After installation of the water pump and camshaft synchronizer, the battery ground cable must be reconnected before adding clean engine oil.
