How to service and repair the ignition switch on Ford Escape?

Service and repair of the ignition switch requires starting with supplemental restraint system (SRS) deactivation. Start by removing the instrument panel steering column cover before proceeding to take off three lower steering column cover mounting screws which will let you remove the lower steering column cover. Before moving forward remove the steering column covers at their specified locations then uninstall the electrical connector of the ignition switch. Proceed by setting the steering column to its most downward position followed by disconnecting the ignition switch by pushing the two tabs and pulling it out of position. The process of installing the replacement ignition switch requires both the return of removal steps and activation of the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
