Ford Excursion Ignition Lock Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Non-Functional Ignition Lock Cylinder on Ford Excursion?
A: The first requirement to service a non-functional ignition switch lock cylinder is to disconnect all battery ground cables to drain back up power from the restraint system. Begin the procedure by taking out the steering wheel before removing the cap from the ignition switch lock cylinder. Using a 1/8-inch diameter drill bit drill out the lock cylinder retaining pin before using a 3/8-inch diameter drill to drill through the middle of the ignition lock key slot until the lock cylinder breaks free. Throw away both the ignition switch lock cylinder and disorderly drill shavings obtained from the steering column. Write down the precise configurations of the steering column lock gear, bearing and retainer, then proceed with removing the retainer, followed by the bearing and gear. Clean every aspect of the drill residue from the steering column before inspecting it for structural damage. The installation requires a new ignition switch lock cylinder that must be fitted using the opposite method of removal followed by testing the ignition switch lock cylinder function.
