  Q: How to service and repair the auxiliary Transmission Oil Cooler on Ford Excursion?

  To service and repair the auxiliary transmission fluid cooler, place vehicle in NEUTRAL on a hoist. Take off the four grille screws, the lower grille clips and the grille. Remove left and right front lower air deflector push pins, with air deflectors out of the way to reach the retaining bolts. Remove left and right upper auxiliary transmission fluid cooler retaining bolts, disconnect both left and right lower splash shield push pins, and disconnect 4 lower splash shield push pins. If fitted, remove the six retainers and lower bumper filler and set the power steering cooler aside after removing the retaining bolts. Unplug left and right lower splash shield push pins to access A/C condenser bracket and unplug left and right auxiliary transmission fluid coolers. Take off the left and right lower A/C condenser brackets. Remove auxiliary transmission fluid cooler from the lower frame and slide it towards the front of the vehicle (A/C condenser also needs to be moved forward for removal). Remove bolts and remove auxiliary transmission fluid cooler. Move the A/C condenser forward once again, place and bolt the auxiliary transmission fluid cooler in place. Reconnect the right and left lower A/C condenser brackets, the right and left auxiliary transmission fluid cooler hoses and the lower splash shield push pins. Replace the power steering cooler (if equipped) and replace the lower bumper filler and secure with the correct retainers. Install the four lower splash shield push pins, both lower splash shield push pins and the upper auxiliary transmission fluid cooler retaining bolts, making sure the air deflectors are in place. Finally, place the grille back in place and secure with the four lower retaining clips and the four upper screws and refill the system with clean automatic transmission fluid.
