How to service and repair the Crankshaft Position Sensor on Ford Explorer?

The Crankshaft Position Sensor repair process requires starting with disconnecting the battery ground cable. You must disconnect the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor after battery ground cable removal. Reverse the removal procedure to install both 4.0L SOHC and 4.0L (push rod) CKP sensors by positioning them against the damper because the sensor contains wear tabs which diminish with continuous engine revolutions. Place the sensor wires at a distance from the battery cable.
