How to Service and Repair the Backing Plate on Ford Explorer Sport?

The servicing process of the backing plate starts with removing the rear brake shoes and linings. The lever for parking brake needs to be disconnected by pulling back the parking brake cable spring. The following steps should be taken if the axle shaft requires removal along with the hub. A compressed cable retainer will draw the parking brake rear cable and conduit out of the brake backing plate. Finish the rear wheel cylinder removal by disconnecting the brake line fitting while removing the two bolts which secure the cylinder.
