  The first step to repair or service parking brake shoes involves checking that the parking brake control is unlocked and then lowering system tension with front Parking Brake Cable and conduit stretch before inserting a 4 mm (5/32-inch) drill bit equivalent retainer. Ground your vehicle after lifting it up properly before unattaching the tire and wheel assembly and removing the rear brake disc. The servicing begins with removing the brake shoe retracting spring and the brake shoe adjusting screw spring and also takes out the brake adjuster screw and the rear brake shoe hold-down springs. The Brake Adjusting Gauge helps measure rear brake disc drum dimensions and the brake shoes must be set to a 0.5 mm (0.020 inch) reduction relative to this measurement. Before installing the rear brake disc eliminate all foreign substances and corrosive elements, dirt from the mounting points on wheel, wheel hub, brake drum and brake disc. Proper metal-to-metal contact is essential for this step. As the final step install the wheel and tire assembly, apply tension to the parking brake cable system while carefully holding the front parking brake cable alongside the conduit then remove the retainer from the parking brake control before testing the parking brake operation.
