You must first open the tailgate while supporting it before you remove the 7 bolts, 4 pin-type retainers and the tailgate access panel. Remember to tighten the bolts to 5 Nm (44 lb-in) after reinstalling them. Opening the clip will enable the removal of the tailgate latch actuating rod from the tailgate remote control while you detach the rod locator from the tailgate. You need to detach the 2 bolts holding the tailgate latch before installing it again with a torque setting of 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Completing the installation requires going through the reversal of steps used for removal by first removing the tailgate latch actuating rod.
