How to Service the Coolant Temperature Sensor on Ford F-250 Super Duty?

The service of the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor requires setting the ignition switch to OFF because it prevents damage to electronic engine controls. The first step requires draining the engine cooling system and separating the cooling fan. First disconnect the C-clip securing the wiring harness to the ECT sensor while also separating the ECT electrical connector. The service technician should remove the ECT sensor while disposing of its O-ring seal. After installing it and before tightening to 18 Nm (159 lb.in) you must use clean engine oil to coat a new O-ring seal. The ECT sensor electrical connector should be connected when you make sure the C-clip protects the wiring harness from mechanical damage from the accessory drive belt. Before reinstalling the engine cooling fan you must complete a process of filling and bleeding the cooling system.
