Ford F-250 Super Duty Harmonic Balancer Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the Harmonic Balancer on Ford F-250 Super Duty?
A: Vehicle servicing for the crankshaft pulley requires first placing it in neutral gear while on a hoist stand. Push the position retaining tabs before you rotate the lower cooling Fan Shroud upward until the retainer tab gets locked. Turn the tensioner clockwise to take off the accessory Drive Belt and then remove the crankshaft pulley bolt accompanied by its washer discarding the bolt for disposal. To remove the crankshaft pulley you must employ the Crankshaft Vibration Damper Remover. The process requires sealing the area with a time limit of 4 minutes but demands removal of the sealant if the time passes and a cleanup process using silicone gasket remover followed by Motorcraft metal surface prep and complete drying. Apply silicone gasket on the Woodruff key slot of the crankshaft pulley before adding a sealant layer. Before putting on the crankshaft pulley with the Crankshaft Vibration Damper Installer, apply clean engine oil to the front seal inner lip. New crankshaft pulley hardware needs installation with the procedure to start at 90 Nm (66 lb-ft) torque setting followed by loosening the bolt 360 degrees before moving to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) torque and finishing by tightening the bolt another 90 degrees. Follow these steps to install the accessory drive belt: Apply clockwise rotation to the tensioner and reinstall the belt before pressing the position retaining tab that will cause the lower cooling fan shroud to lower into its locked position.
