How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal with a Retainer Plate on Ford F-250 Super Duty?

The first step for manipulating the crankshaft main bearing seal consists of oil pan removal. Use the combination of Slide Hammer and Crankshaft Rear Oil Slinger Remover to remove the crankshaft oil slinger before discarding it. Afterward the Slide Hammer alongside the Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Remover will help to remove and discard the crankshaft rear seal. Take out the six bolts fastening the crankshaft rear seal retainer plate. Preparation for assembly requires using plastic scrapers instead of metal or wire brushes as scratching becomes the main cause of leakage. Use silicone gasket remover and Motorcraft metal surface prep acting according to the product guidelines for cleaning the sealing surfaces. When the rear crankshaft seal retaining plate fails to secure within four minutes the sealant needs removal followed by another sealing area cleaning process that allows total dry time. A 4.06 mm (0.16 in) silicone gasket bead should be applied onto the crankshaft rear seal retainer plate sealing surface before fitting the retainer plate and its six bolts which must be tightened to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). Engine oil must be applied to the crankshaft rear seal before new installation with Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Installers. Engine oil lubrication must be applied to the crankshaft oil slinger prior to installation with Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Installers and Crankshaft Rear Oil Slinger Installer on a new crankshaft oil slinger. Finally, reinstall the oil pan.
