- Q: How to service and repair the oil pan on Ford F-350 Super Duty?A: A correct service and repair of the oil pan begins by positioning the vehicle on a hoist while keeping it in NEUTRAL. Take away the generator followed by the engine cooling fan and the Throttle Body (TB) spacer. The required next step involves installing the Engine Support Bar together with Support Hook and Engine Support Bracket. You must also discard the oil filter while draining the engine oil. Service advisers should disassemble the engine Oil Cooler along with the threaded insert when this equipment is present. Begin service by cutting off the fuel tube bracket which separates the fuel supply and vapor tubes from their mounting point near the engine back. Take out the rear transmission insulator nuts and proceed to remove skid plate bolts if needed. The first step requires the removal of two bolts and accompanying nuts located on the exhaust Y-pipe flanges. The seven engine support insulator-to-crossmember nuts should be removed and discarded. Employing the Engine Support Bar gives the required elevation needed to disconnect the Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) sensor and LH Catalyst Monitor Sensor (CMS) electrical connectors while redirecting the transmission wiring harness from the work area. Install the oil pan gasket first and apply loose torque to its 18 bolts by increasing the force from 2 Nm (18 lb-in) to 20 Nm (177 lb-in) and finally torquing an additional 60 degrees. After lowering the transmission install the flexplate inspection cover while tightening its 2 bolts to 34 Nm (25 lb-ft). Lower the engine until the studs align properly before using hand tools to fasten 4 right-hand side engine support insulator nuts at 115 Nm (85 lb-ft) and 3 left-hand side engine support insulator nuts at 200 Nm (148 lb-ft). The wiring harness should be placed above the transmission before connecting CMS and TSS sensor electrical connectors while installing two new exhaust Y-pipe flange bolts and nuts at 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). Install 4 bolts which need to be tightened to 24 Nm (18 lb-ft) when using the skid plate. The fuel supply and vapor tubes need to be fitted onto the retainer before installing the fuel tube bracket and tightening the nut to 12 Nm (106 lb-in). When mounting the rear transmission insulator nuts to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft) torque apply the transmission auxiliary fluid cooler tube support bracket and starter wiring harness support bracket onto the engine front cover stud bolt followed by nut tightening to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). The threaded insert for engine oil cooler needs installation at 58 Nm (43 lb-ft) torque.
