How to Service and Repair the Clock Spring Assembly on Ford Focus?

You can start servicing the Clock Spring assembly only after you disconnect the driver air bag module. Lower the wheel steering to its minimum position and clamp the tilt locking mechanism. The road wheels need to be pointed straight before beginning the steering wheel removal to protect the Clock Spring components. The upper steering column shroud will release when its tabs are disengaged and then three screws from the lower shroud must be unscrewed before the tilt column locking lever becomes free and the shroud can be taken off. Disconnect the Clock Spring electrical connector before removing the two screws which allows you to position the steering wheel rotation sensor in a separate position. Secondly disconnect the two screws which secure the Clock Spring. New Clock Spring installments should not have the anti-rotation key taken off until the steering wheel installation is complete and premature removal requires clockwise rotations of four revolutions to achieve central alignment. A correct Clock Spring centering check involves verifying the window at 4 o'clock shows the yellow indicator while the inner rotor arrow points to the 6 o'clock position and both rotors meet at 6 o'clock and the inner rotor and wiring and connector are positioned at 12 o'clock.
