How to Service the Canister Purge Valve and the Evaporative Emission Canister on Ford Freestar?

Start servicing the canister purge valve and the evaporative emission canister only after disconnecting the battery ground cable for fuel vapor safety purposes. Keep both open flames and smoking activities prohibited from the work area. The first step when removing the canister purge valve is to detach the cowl panel. The installation of the evaporative emission canister requires the vehicle to sit in NEUTRAL position before performing hoisting. Start by removing pin-type retainers along with the evaporative emission canister cover according to the tables and illustrations. Follow the opposite procedure used for removal in order to install the components. After completion of installation do both a leak test followed by the evaporative emission repair verification drive cycle to validate proper operation.
