Ford Mustang Spindle Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the wheel spindle on Ford Mustang?
A: A service and repair of the wheel spindle begins with Wheel Bearing and hub assembly removal. You must remove the three bolts from the brake disc shield before installing new ones with a torque of 20 Nm (177 lb-in). Set the speed sensor aside after removing its bolt before you reinstall the sensor by tightening it to 15 Nm (133 lb-in). Use a new tie-rod end nut which should be tightened to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft). When removing the tie-rod end follow the directions of the Tie-Rod End Remover to cut the tie-rod end from the front wheel spindle while protecting the dust boot from damage. Position a jackstand beneath the front suspension lower arm before replacing the old lower ball joint nut and bolt with new ones which should be torques to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft). When working on separating the lower Control Arm from the wheel spindle avoid damaging the lower ball joint boot. Index the two strut-to-spindle cam bolts if provided while being extremely cautious about heat exposure because pressurized gas inside the Shock Absorber and strut tube creates a risk of explosion. After discontinuing use of the strut-to-spindle bolts and flagnuts install new ones that should be tightened to 225 Nm (166 lb-ft). End your installation by removing the wheel spindle followed by the reversed removal steps while thoroughly checking the front end alignment if needed.
