To start servicing the Ford 8.8-Inch Ring Gear High Torque rear drive axle differential cover you need to remove the 10 differential housing cover bolts then drain the lubricant from the rear axle housing. Drain the lubricant before taking out the differential housing cover. Before you install the new silicone sealant remove all dust and debris from both the rear axle housing and differential housing cover surfaces. Additionally protect the inner rear axle from contamination by covering it up. The differential housing cover requires a continuous sealant application which needs installation within 15 minutes or a new sealant application is necessary. Utilize the ten bolts to secure the cover by tightening them to 45 Nm (33 lb-ft). You should insert 118 ml (4 oz) of friction modifier followed by 2.54L (5.37 pt) of rear axle lubricant into the opening obtained by removing the filler plug. Reinsert the filler plug followed by torquing it to 52 Nm (38 lb-ft).
