Ford Taurus X A/C Accumulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: What Are the Steps and Precautions for Servicing and Repairing the A/C Accumulator on Ford Taurus X?
A: When servicing the A/C accumulator, one must protect its inner components from outside air while installation should take place as a final step when repairing multiple A/C system components simultaneously. Waiting to install the A/C accumulator fittings should start the immediate evacuation of the A/C system to stop moisture from reaching the desiccant. The replacement of an A/C accumulator becomes necessary only when contaminants reach the device from system compressor failure or when there is evidence of leaks or shell or desiccant damage. Container replacement is also needed to prevent moisture contamination following complete refrigerant discharge leading to pressure equalization for over one hour. Refrigerant pressure higher than zero warrants no replacement of the A/C accumulator. To start, you must collect the refrigerant before you remove the condenser outlet fitting nut and disconnect the fitting while throwing away the O-ring seal and gasket seal and applying 15 Nm (11 lb-ft) tightening force to the new fitting when installation finishes. The second procedure consists of removing the accumulator outlet line clip followed by the outlet fitting nut and disconnecting the fitting before discarding seals while tightening the new fitting to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft). The two accumulator bolts need removal before extracting the accumulator from the unit. Installation of the component follows the removal order using new gasket seals and O-ring seals and requires the correct amount of clean PAG oil for lubricating the refrigerant system. Evacuation follows leak testing of the refrigerant system for the final step before charging it with refrigerant.
