    Q:
How to Service and Repair the A/C Accumulator on Ford Flex? Posted by Customer
    A:
The A/C accumulator servicing and repair process needs controlled exposure to outside air for removal and installation while deployment of the accumulator must occur after other components in multi-component A/C repairs. The shipping caps should stay installed until fittings are ready for connection while immediate evacuation of the A/C system becomes necessary to stop moisture from contaminating the desiccant. A new accumulator must be replaced only when the ailing A/C compressor causes system contamination or when physical damages appear on the shell or desiccant due to exceeding one hour of pressure equalization with outside air. You should not replace the accumulator during repair when there is present any positive refrigerant pressure. Begin by evacuating the refrigerant before separating the condenser outlet fitting nut and minus adapter while discarding the O-ring and gasket seals so tighten the new components to 15 Nm (133 lb-in) upon installation. The accumulator outlet line clip needs removal to disconnect the fitting by unfastening its bolt, discard the O-ring seal and gasket seal before tightening the new fitting to 15 Nm (133 lb-in) torque. The two accumulator bolts should be removed before installation of new ones at 9 Nm (80 lb-in). The installation requires following the removal steps in reverse order and including the installation of replacement gasket and O-ring rubber seals and precise PAG oil addition to the refrigerant system before evacuating the system and performing leak tests and final charger.

    Q:
What Are the Steps and Precautions for Servicing and Repairing the A/C Accumulator on Ford Taurus X? Posted by Customer
    A:
When servicing the A/C accumulator, one must protect its inner components from outside air while installation should take place as a final step when repairing multiple A/C system components simultaneously. Waiting to install the A/C accumulator fittings should start the immediate evacuation of the A/C system to stop moisture from reaching the desiccant. The replacement of an A/C accumulator becomes necessary only when contaminants reach the device from system compressor failure or when there is evidence of leaks or shell or desiccant damage. Container replacement is also needed to prevent moisture contamination following complete refrigerant discharge leading to pressure equalization for over one hour. Refrigerant pressure higher than zero warrants no replacement of the A/C accumulator. To start, you must collect the refrigerant before you remove the condenser outlet fitting nut and disconnect the fitting while throwing away the O-ring seal and gasket seal and applying 15 Nm (11 lb-ft) tightening force to the new fitting when installation finishes. The second procedure consists of removing the accumulator outlet line clip followed by the outlet fitting nut and disconnecting the fitting before discarding seals while tightening the new fitting to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft). The two accumulator bolts need removal before extracting the accumulator from the unit. Installation of the component follows the removal order using new gasket seals and O-ring seals and requires the correct amount of clean PAG oil for lubricating the refrigerant system. Evacuation follows leak testing of the refrigerant system for the final step before charging it with refrigerant.
