Ford Windstar Ignition Lock Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Non-Functional Ignition Lock Cylinder on Ford Windstar?
A: Initial steps for servicing and repairing a malfunctioning ignition switch lock cylinder require setting the front wheels to straight and disconnecting the battery ground at minimum one minute. The removal process begins by detaching the ground Battery Cable and maintaining a waiting period of at least one minute for back up power supply depletion in the restraint system. Deactivate the Supplemental Restraint System through (SRS) for serious personal injury prevention. First perform the Steering Wheel assembly uninstallation procedure while abiding by all safety guidelines. The first step is unlocking the ignition switch cylinder by rotating its cap. A new lock cylinder can be built using the lock repair package (F85Z-11582-AA) which provides instructions for matching the current key code of the vehicle when repairing the lock cylinder. Begin by using a 1/8 inch drill bit to remove the ignition switch lock cylinder retaining pin followed by a 3/8 inch drill bit to break loose the cylinder through the ignition lock key slot center. The old ignition lock cylinder needs discarding and all drill debris should be cleaned out from the steering column. Discard the bearing retainer and bearing while they should be accompanied by a comprehensive cleaning of all drill shavings from the steering column before examining it for damage. The reverse removal steps should be followed to put in the new ignition switch lock cylinder and check its operational function. To finish the process you should reenable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).
