Lincoln LS Ignition Coil Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the ignition coil-on-plug on Lincoln LS?
A: Service and repair of the ignition coil-on-plug begins with removing EVAP Canister Purge Valve nuts. Position the valve and bracket to the side while performing the task. Start by unfastening the 12 bolts and removing both ignition coil covers. Remove all silicone sealer and leftover debris from the valve cover surface and coil cover as well as from the ignition coil wiring harness. Separate the ignition coil electrical connectors before you take out the 8 ignition coil bolts. A tiny twisting movement on ignition coils will create enough space to easily pull them out. Apply brake caliper silicone grease together with dielectric compound to the inside of ignition coil boots before installing each of the 8 coils and bolts which need to be tightened to 5 Nm (44 lb-in). Secure the 8 ignition coil electrical connectors by cleaning all presence of dirt and moisture from the valve cover before applying silicone sealant. The wire harness will sit in a notch of the valve cover with a 0.5-inch bead of silicone sealant before the harness receives more sealant to entirely encircle it and the notch. Begin by attaching the ignition coil covers followed by tightening the bolts to 5 Nm (44 lb-in) then set the EVAP canister purge valve bracket in place while securing it with nuts to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft).
