Lincoln MKS Seat Motor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the power seat motor and seat recliner motor on Lincoln MKS?
A: Service and repair operations on the power seat motor along with the seat recliner motor must start through separate removal of the seat backrest. Service technicians should exercise extreme caution before any attempt to probe Air Bag module or safety belt pretensioner electrical connectors due to potential accidental deployments resulting in severe injury. A pre-service check of the Supplemental Restraint System needs to verify operation while ensuring no faults exist so the vehicle can be returned to the customer. Use your hands to pull the bottom edge of the backrest panel on each side so you can unfasten the retainers after which you should pivot the panel downward to protect the clips. To detach the backrest trim cover both hook-and-loop strips and J-clips must be released while the backrest Thermo-Electric Device (TED) requires disconnecting its electrical connector to disengage from the backrest frame and foam pad. The procedure requires you to pull back the backrest foam pad and trim cover from the frame after freeing all J-clips then remove the E-clip from the recliner shaft followed by the recline motor bolt. Proceed to remove the power recline motor by first disconnecting its electrical connector then moving the recliner shaft assembly out from its mounting position. The installation process requires that motor shafts stay fixed during operations until the long shaft faces the short shaft and sleeve for synchronization purposes. Secure the long recliner shaft into position by connecting its electrical connector before using bolt and E-clip for assembly lock. Check the cavity of the seat side air bag module while also verifying the deployment chute's correct positioning to prevent deployment problems. Mount the backrest trim cover and foam pad with its front deployment chute edges straight before clipping only the lower and side J-clips into place. To properly install the backrest TED users must connect its electrical connector before using the pin-type retainer to secure it. Install the backrest panel by moving it outward and connecting its clips while securing the backrest trim cover and attaching the carpet flap toe-kick J-clips before putting back the seat backrest.
