- Q: How to Service and Repair the Power Steering Hose for the All Wheel Drive (AWD) 3.0L and 3.5L Engines on Lincoln MKZ?A: A technician should start power steering line maintenance or repair of AWD 3.0L and 3.5L engines by hoisting the vehicle into NEUTRAL position followed by removing the battery and its tray. You should disrupt the electrical connectors from the PCM and remove the wiring harness retainer from the PCM bracket before putting the harness to the side. The technician must remove the lower cowl panel grille as the next step. Service personnel must detach the 3.0L pressure line bracket-to-power steering fluid reservoir bolt and remove the electrical harness retainer from the pressure line bracket before reinstallation at 9 Nm (80 lb-in). Remove first the two pressure line bracket-to-engine bolts followed by detaching the electrical harness retainer which you will need to tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) when installing. During 3.5L engine repairs remove the pressure line bracket-to-RH valve cover stud nut followed by detaching the electrical harness retainer which needs tightening to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) for reinstall. When working with an equipped engine block heater harness users should detach it from the power steering pressure line before removing the pressure line bracket-to-steering gear bolt while tightening the bolt to 15 Nm (133 lb-in) during reinstallation. Afterwards remove the pressure line-to-Power Steering Pump banjo bolt, throw out both the bolt and seals while installing a new one that requires 48 Nm (35 lb-ft) tightening torque. Replace the pressure line-to-steering gear banjo bolt with a new one which must receive 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) torque setting and discard both seals. Any time professionals disconnect the power steering pressure line it becomes necessary to replace all components with new banjo bolts and seals to stop fluid leaks. The installation of components and power steering system filling should begin after completing the removal process in reverse order.
