The first step when servicing or repairing the column shift automatic transmission shift levers requires you to depower the back up power supply to stop accidental air bag deployment; then disconnect the battery ground cable and wait for at least one minute while also disconnecting all auxiliary batteries and power supplies if present. You should start by disassembling the lower steering column opening finish panel by unscrewing and relocating the parking brake release handle and unscrewing another panel screw to ease the retaining clips. To continue the procedure, remove the screws located on the lower steering column opening finish panel reinforcement followed by extracting the ignition switch lock cylinder by rotating it to the RUN position and using the lock release pin to unlock before pulling it free. First, deal with the lower steering column shroud by removing its four screws and then take care of the upper steering column shroud. Begin by disconnecting the TCS harness connector and then remove the automatic transmission shift lever cover from the steering column while taking the TCS harness away from its locators. The old automatic transmission shift lever pin needs disposal while avoiding its reinstallation. Use a new automatic transmission shift lever pin for installation and carry out the removal procedure in reverse order to finish the operation.
