Lincoln Navigator Wheel Hub Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the wheel hub on Lincoln Navigator?
A: Service and repair of the wheel hub starts by raising the vehicle and then removing the tire and wheel assembly. The use of heat to remove a seized wheel nut poses both safety risks because it may harm the wheel component and the bearings unit. The initial step includes removing the front disc Brake Caliper together with its anchor plate and then you can take out the hub grease cap and cotter pin and retainer nut. The service begins with removing the Spindle nut and follow-up removal of the front wheel outer bearing retainer washer before extracting the outer front Wheel Bearing. You should remove these components beginning with the Brake Disc and hub and subsequently breaking off the inner front wheel bearing while getting rid of the wheel hub grease seal. A drift tool should be used to extract bearing cups while avoiding dry-spinning with compressed air. Dismantle the bearings while cleaning them with solvent followed by complete drying process. Check for damage then replace all bearings if needed. The spindle and hub demands cleaning up of old lubricant while checking for surface defects to replace defective parts. Check the front wheel spindle for both pitting marks and scoring then proceed with necessary repairs or replacements of the part. A suitable bearing cup replacer should be used to install both outer and inner wheel bearing cups while filling the hub with premium XG-1-C or -K long-life grease until it reaches the inside diameters of the bearing cups. The wheel bearing inner section should receive a grease application from a bearing packer before installing both new wheel hub greased seal and the inner front wheel bearing. Before inserting the brake disc and hub cover lightly grease the front wheel spindle spindle in a way that keeps the brake disc properly positioned to safeguard the grease seal from damage. After installing the outer front wheel bearing you should place the front wheel outer bearing retainer washer followed by fastening the spindle nut. When adjusting front wheel bearing end play you should rotate the brake disc followed by tightening the spindle nut before loosening it twice. When rotating the brake disc to the counterclockwise direction tighten the spindle nut a second time before readjusting it for a final time. The procedure ends by mounting the retainer nut then new cotter pin and hub grease cap followed by the front disc brake caliper anchor plate. Users must activate the air suspension system through its switch before reinstalling the wheel and tire assembly to their vehicle.
