The installation process requires cleaning of the mating surfaces on the exhaust Y-pipe dual catalytic converter to muffler assembly and an evaluation of exhaust hanger isolators. Replace worn out isolators after inspection. Mount the muffler assembly and fasten its isolators before securing both bolts that join the exhaust Y-pipe dual catalytic converter to the muffler assembly. Begin by installing the outer bolt securely before torquing the inner bolt to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft) followed by adjusting the outer bolt to meet the same specification. Complete the installation by securing the tailpipe from Expedition models through the isolator and 2 bracket assembly bolts which should be tightened to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Perform the exhaust system alignment procedure when the exhaust system isolators measure anything other than zero load in their position.
