Service and repair of the camshaft starts by preventing the
Crankshaft or camshaft rotation when you detach
Timing Chains or install cylinder heads because such movements will lead to major damage to the
Pistons and valves. The first procedure involves removing the camshaft roller followers before moving onto the timing chain extraction. To start the process remove the camshaft sprocket and spacer by unboltting the component. Perform the extraction by removing 13 bearing cap bolts and the camshaft bearing cap ladders followed by removing the camshaft from the cylinder head. Application of clean engine oil should be done on the camshaft journals as well as bearing cap ladders before installing the camshaft on the cylinder head. Place the camshaft bearing caps without tightening and proceed to fasten the bolts using their specified order. Position the camshaft sprocket together with its sprocket spacer before installing the bolt. The next step includes mounting the timing chains along with the roller follower.
