    Q:
How to service and repair the camshaft on Ford Crown Victoria? Posted by Customer
    A:
Service and repair operations on the camshaft must start by extracting the timing chain. The act of rotating either the crankshaft or camshaft while removing timing chains or performing cylinder head installation will result in major piston and valve destruction. After removing the camshaft roller followers you should next detach the camshaft sprocket together with spacer through bolt removal. The service starts by removing 13 camshaft bearing cap bolts which precedes removing the camshaft bearing cap ladders before extracting the camshaft from the cylinder head. You must apply Super Premium SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or an oil equivalent to the camshaft journals that meets Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G before installing the camshaft onto the cylinder head. Apply the specified oil to the camshaft bearing cap ladders before installing the caps and placing their bolts at a loose torque. The sprocket spacer needs to be installed first with the camshaft sprocket and its spacer before tightening the bolt. The completion of the timing chain process includes a final stage where you must place the roller follower along with the timing chains.
