The service and repair of automatic transmission shift levers begins with the vehicle in neutral position on a hoist. Gently lever up to remove the top finish panel followed by the upper shift lever trim ring after placing the floor shift selector lever into (D) position. The
Shift Cable requires removal from the gearshift assembly through two steps: first detach the shift cable end from the gearshift lever and then separate the shift cable from the bracket. The procedure to remove the shifter starts by disconnecting its electrical connector and after that unscrewing all 4 bolts to complete the removal. The first step for installation is to mount the shifter assembly using the 4 bolts and tighten them to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) then reconnect the electrical connector. The installation process starts with the upper center console followed by the upper shift lever trim ring where proper orientation of the thick tab on the driver side front of the shifter should be checked before assembly. Conclude the process by readjusting the shift cable if required.
