How to Service and Repair Automatic Transmission Shift Levers on Mercury Mariner?

In order to fix the automatic transmission shifter, remove the battery and position the shift lever on (D). Take off upper trim ring and top finish panel and remove shift lever cable. Remove the shift lever assembly, replace it with a new one and reassemble components making sure that they are properly adjusted.
