How to service and repair the automatic transmission shifter on Mercury Mariner?

The first step for automatic transmission shifter maintenance requires putting the selector lever in position (D). You should first gently lift the upper selector lever trim ring then raise the center console lid before you pull out the center console compartment tray. Start by removing the top finish panel while you detach the selector lever cable from the assembly through bracket removal of its cable end. Detach wiring harness retainers together with electrical connectors at the selector lever area where you should separate both the selector lever electrical connector and the vehicle harness connector. The AWD module of all-wheel drive vehicles needs pulling backward to detach from the selector lever back. Next invoke a centered console center console screw extraction to start the selector lever assembly extraction process followed by removal of the four bolts securing the assembly base. To put it into place install the selector lever assembly while securing it with the four bolts tightened to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft) before you add the two center console screws. The back of the selector lever requires AWD vehicles to attach their AWD module. Secure both electrical connectors to their designated location on the selector lever after ensuring correct installation of vehicle harness connector and mechanical selector electrical connector. Put back the wiring harness retainers and connect the selector lever cable to the selector lever assembly where it can be fastened to the bracket while being attached to its cable end. Reinstall the shift cable after readjusting it followed by the top finish panel together with the center console compartment tray and the upper selector lever trim ring.
