Mercury Milan Neutral Safety Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Neutral Safety Switch on Mercury Milan?
A: Start theRepair and service of Transmission Range (TR) Sensor by first putting the vehicle in NEUTRAL position and then mounting it on a hoist. Remove the TR sensor electrical connector as well as the selector lever cable end. The manual control lever requires holding position when working with the manual control lever nut to protect the TR switch from possible damage caused by rotational torques. First disconnect the bolts which secure the TR sensor while also taking away the manual control lever and its nut. Install the TR sensor along with its bolts during this stage while maintaining a hold on the manual control lever yet avoid complete tightening of any bolts. Use the Transmission Range Sensor Alignment Tool for TR sensor alignment before bolting it to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). When applying torque to the manual control lever nut you must keep the manual control lever steady to stop neither the manual control lever shaft nor TR sensor from damage. Tighten this nut to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft). You should first check that the manual control lever sits at the "2" position then make sure the manual control lever points to the correct TR sensor D position. The last step requires the connection of the selector lever cable as well as the TR sensor electrical connector.
