Mercury Montego Brake Disc Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Properly Remove and Install a Brake Disc on Mercury Montego?
A: The first step to service a brake rotor/disc requires proper support of the Brake Caliper using a suitable tool that prevents gravity from affecting the brake flexible hose. Use a suitable tool to support the brake caliper before discarding the two bolts which secure the brake caliper and anchor plate assembly together. The servicing process demands disc brake screw removal before discarding the screw. An application of penetrating and lock lubricant to the brake disc hub mating surfaces should be done when removal becomes difficult. Brake parts cleaner should be used to remove rust and debris after the brake disc and wheel hub separation. A small amount of anti-seize lubricant should be coated on the hub flange ahead of assembling the brake disc. The new brake disc screw needs tightening at 12 Nm while also reaching 9 ft. lbs. torque level. To finish the procedure anchor the brake caliper and plate using two new bolts which need to be tightened to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.).
