Mercury Monterey EGR Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the EGR Valve System Module on Mercury Monterey?
A: You should start EGR system module servicing and repairs by installing the vehicle on a hoist with NEUTRAL activation and removing the Battery Cable ground. You should disconnect the upper nut that attaches the EGR system module to exhaust manifold tube then reinstall this nut with a torque of 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) before finishing the operation. The tube needs to be removed after releasing the lower nut of the EGR system module-to-exhaust manifold connection while tightening both nuts to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) during assembly. The procedure requires disconnecting both the electrical connector and vacuum connector of the EGR system module. The gasket sealing surfaces on EGR system module should not have their gasket reused because they are made of lightweight metals. The two EGR system module bolts should be removed before discarding the gasket. Clean both gasket-contacting surfaces thoroughly. Before installation use a new gasket which should have the raised circle side facing the intake manifold and then tighten the bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). The installation reaches completion by doing the reverse steps of the removal process.
