How to service and repair the automatic transmission shifter on Mercury Mountaineer?

In order to service the automatic transmission shifter, the ignition switch and upper steering column shroud should be removed. Disconnect the shift control selector lever harness, remove and dispose the gearshift lever pin and remove the gearshift lever. To install, install the pin and invert the steps of removal.
