Mercury Mountaineer Flywheel Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install a Flywheel on Mercury Mountaineer?
A: The first step in flexplate removal should begin with the transmission extraction from the vehicle. The second step in this process requires removing eight flexplate retaining bolts which should be discarded. The installation procedure requires fresh flexplate bolts since they represent a torque-to-yield design feature which becomes unusable after initial use. You should fit the flexplate afterward using 8 new bolts in three leveling stages where you first set them to 13 Nm (115 lb-in) before moving to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) then complete the mounting by torquing an additional 90 degrees. Install the transmission after you have secured the flexplate to its proper position.
