Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery while opening the fuel tank cap. Use a torque wrench to attach and tighten the fuel tank filler cap three bolts with 1 Nm (9 lb-in) force before cap reinstallation. To work on the fuel filler hose of Explorer and Mountaineer models users must depressing the two tabs that secure the fresh air vent tube in the fuel door pocket to inner fenderwell.
