    Q:
How to Service and Repair the Rear Steering Knuckle on a 2WD on Ford Freestyle? Posted by Customer
    A:
The necessary first step when servicing or repairing the rear wheel knuckle on a 2WD vehicle involves taking center-hub to fender-lip measurements when the vehicle rests on flat ground. First detach the wheel hub assembly along with the wheel bearing and then separate the brake dust shield by removing bolts then tighten new bolts to 14 Nm during installation. After discarding the old trailing arm-to-knuckle bolt apply a new one while tightening it to 105 Nm (77 ft. lbs.). Install a new toe link-to-knuckle nut along with bolt before completing the installation by tightening them to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.). First remove the shock absorber and spring assembly-to-lower arm bolt before you can install a new one which must be tightened to 110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.). Replace the lower arm-to-subframe bolt with a fresh one by tightening it to 125 Nm (92 ft. lbs.). Follow the same process to replace the upper arm-to-subframe bolt using a new component tightened to 110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.). Always use new suspension fasteners. Raise the rear suspension with a jack stand until the center of hub distance matches the initial measurement with fender lip. Then install new arm bolts and tighten them to proper torque specifications. To finish the installation follow the opposite steps of removal.

    Q:
How to Service and Repair the Rear Steering Knuckle on an AWD on Ford Five Hundred? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to repair the rear wheel knuckle on an AWD vehicle requires measuring the distance between the hub center and fender lip when the vehicle is sitting level on the ground. You must take out the wheel bearing and wheel hub assembly and follow by removing the brake dust shield by unbolting it. Secure the new shield with torque setting of 14 Nm (10 ft. lbs.) during installation. Proceed to replace the trailing arm-to-knuckle bolt by tightening it to 105 Nm (77 ft. lbs.). Install a brand-new toe link-to-knuckle component before tightening the assembly to 100 Nm (74 ft. lbs.). The procedure entails removing the shock absorber and spring assembly-to-lower arm bolt which should be replaced with a new bolt tightened to 142 Nm (105 ft. lbs.). Change the lower arm-to-subframe bolt with a new one by tightening it to 133 Nm (98 ft. lbs.). The upper arm-to-subframe bolt must be taken out together with its old counterpart while installing a new bolt that requires 110 Nm (81 ft. lbs.) torque. Always use new suspension fasteners. To avoid deformations raise the rear suspension with a jack stand to the same hub-to-fender distance which was recorded before starting the procedure. Finish the installation by performing the reverse steps of the removal procedure.
