    Q:
How to remove and replace the shock absorber on both Front Wheel Drive (FWD) and All Wheel Drive (AWD) on Ford Fusion? Posted by Customer
    A:
The first step to change the shock absorber in both Front Wheel Drive (FWD) and All Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles starts with upper arm removal. Make the shock absorber compressed then hold it in position through tie straps or a corresponding item. The next step includes removing three bracket bolts from the shock absorber then withdrawing both the shock absorber and the upper bracket while discarding the bolts. Follow the bracket with an index-mark on the shock absorber before you take out the shock absorber upper bolt and nut and bracket. During the installation process move the index mark from the previous shock absorber onto the new one. The new shock absorber upper bolt and nut need to be placed loosely without achieving full torque at this time. During upper nut tightening maintain the shock absorber-bracket angle without changing its rotation. Then adjust the marks until the shock absorber's central axis stands at 118 degrees relative to the bracket tab and finally tighten the upper nut until it reaches 103 Nm (76 ft. lbs.). After installation of the shock absorber and bracket assembly you must insert all three bracket bolts before torquing them to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Finally, reinstall the upper arm. The successful operation of the suspension depends on using an Original Equipment Manufacturer part with correct part number and torque specifications during reassembly.
