Power Steering Reservoir

The service procedure for power steering reservoir starts with preventing foreign materials from entering the power steering system to avoid component breakdown. A proper suction piece should remove the power steering fluid from the reservoir. The power steering reservoir requires removing its three bolts while tightening them to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft) before reinstalling. First remove the clamp from the supply hose connected to the power steering pump before removing the return hose through clamp release. Once you remove the power steering reservoir you should install it by applying the reverse order of steps while correctly filling the power steering system.

The servicing process of 4.6L and 5.4L engine power steering reservoir begins by removing engine air cleaner assembly and draining the power steering reservoir. The service begins with disconnecting the Lightning vehicle's spring and cables and removing its nut then the nuts and bracket. All vehicles require power steering hose disconnection which involves using clamps on the power steering hose before removing the power steering return hose along with the power steering reservoir pump hose. You need to remove the bolts and extract the power steering reservoir combined with its bracket. The installation procedure should begin by following the reverse steps of removal and testing for system leaks during the installation process.

Proper service of the power steering reservoir requires draining the contents through an appropriate suction tool that prevents system entry of contaminants which shorten the life of power steering components. First drain the reservoir using a suitable suction device before removing the three reservoir bolts which need to be tightened to 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.) during reinstallation. Safely detach the reservoir-to-pump hose through clamp release followed by disconnecting the power steering fluid cooler-to-reservoir hose by identical clamp release manner. After removing the power steering reservoir, the installation procedure should reverse in order to properly reset the power steering system through fluid addition.
