2000 Ford Expedition Intake Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the intake manifold on 2000 Ford Expedition?
A: Service and repair of the intake manifold requires disconnecting the battery cable starting with ground then a fuel pressure relief step. Begin the procedure by draining engine engine coolant followed by removal of the engine Air Cleaner (ACL) together with its air cleaner outlet tube. The compressor action on the hose clamp allows you to separate the upper radiator hose and you should unfasten the bolts securing the accelerator cable snow shield. The throttle body cam requires detachment of its components through cable removing actions for the accelerator cable and speed control actuator cable and the removal of the accelerator return spring. The bracket holding the accelerator cable needs to be untethered by removing its bolts before setting both parts apart. The procedure requires disconnecting the main vacuum harness as well as the throttle position sensor and engine vacuum regulator connectors along with the fuel pressure regulator vacuum line, vapor management valve vacuum line, and differential pressure feedback EGR connector. The brake booster vacuum line and bracket connection will be removed starting with the nut then fuel lines and idle air control motor electrical connector will be disconnected. The technician should detach the upper connection of the EGR valve from its exhaust manifold tube position while loosening its lower attachment and separating the two vacuum lines. Begin by removing the four throttle body adapter bolts until the adapter becomes removable. Afterwards disconnect and remove the PCV hose then set the power steering reservoir next to the engine after disconnecting its upper and lower bolts. The procedure requires disconnecting the eight fuel injectors and ignition coils as well as removing the generator followed by heater hose and two radio interference capacitors disconnecting. The water thermostat and nine bolts enable removal of the upper intake manifold which can subsequently be lifted while you disconnect the intake manifold tuning valve connector before throwing away the gaskets. The upper and lower intake manifolds should be separated and the gasket should be discarded before removing the bolts together with the intake manifold tuning valve. Install the bolts after cleaning all sealing surfaces with a plastic scraper and placing the intake manifold tuning valve correctly. The first tightening stage should be to 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.) then follow with a second tightening stage to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) when installing new gasket then the upper intake manifold on the lower intake manifold. Attach the upper intake manifold using new gaskets while keeping its nine bolts loosely tight and join the intake manifold tuning valve electric connector. Tighten the 11 bolts of the water thermostat by following the original procedure. Install the generator while connecting the heater hose and two radio ignition interference capacitor electrical connectors. The installation of eight ignition coils and the wiring of eight fuel injector electrical connectors is required next. The power steering reservoir needs to be reinstalled and secured through two lower bolts while the upper bolt replaces. Afterward, install the PCV hose. The throttle body adapter requires four bolts for installation while the EGR valve needs manual installation to the exhaust manifold tube through fitting tightening before connecting both vacuum hoses. Install the idle air control motor and fuel lines while connecting the brake booster vacuum line with bracket and links the differential pressure feedback EGR components as well as the vapor management valve vacuum line and throttle position sensor connector and engine vacuum regulator connector and main vacuum harness and fuel pressure regulator vacuum line. Reinstall the bracket before putting on bolts fastening the accelerator cable and threading the throttle body cam in place plus attaching the speed control actuator cable and throttle return spring along with the throttle body cam. Replace the accelerator cable snow shield followed by installation of the bolts then attach the upper radiator hose and install the engine air cleaner before placing on the air cleaner outlet tube. The last steps of the procedure include reattaching the battery ground cable while performing engine cooling system filling and bleeding procedures.
