- Q: How to service and repair the lower control arm on 2000 Ford F-150?A: You can start working on the lower control arm repair by lifting the vehicle onto a hoist and taking off the wheel with attached tire before removing the brake disc shield. To disconnect the front shock runner remove the upper shock absorber nuts and washer. After that unscrew and pull out the shock absorber along with its nuts. Underneath the front arm remove the brake hose bracket screw and its supporting bracket. After compressing the coil spring you can remove the lower ball joint castellated nut by taking off its cotter pin first. Extract the ball joint from the spindle using a Pitman Arm Puller once you have separated it. After that, take out all bolts and nuts from the front suspension lower arm to remove the entire suspension assembly with the coil spring. Position the coil spring into the front suspension lower arm so its end shows in the first hole while resting in the second hole before assembly. First secure the forward front suspension lower arm nut by keeping the control arm at curb position height, then position the front suspension components and install their bolts. Fasten the lower ball joint assembly by installing its castellated nut with a fresh cotter pin and tightening the front stabilizer bar link nut afterward. Place the front shock absorber with both lower shock absorber nuts then put on the shock absorber upper washer and nut. Secure the brake hose bracket fastener plus brake disc guard afterwards install the tire and wheel. At the end analyze and correct the alignment settings of the front end components.
