2000 Ford F-150 Axle Shaft Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the 8.8-inch ring gear axle shaft on 2000 Ford F-150?
A: Start repair or service of the 8.8-inch ring gear axle shaft by raising and supporting the vehicle before taking off the wheel and tire combination. First drain lubricant through the removal procedure of differential housing cover then proceed to remove the rear brake drums or calipers. The differential pinion shaft must be removed after discarding its lock bolt and extracting the shaft itself. Compression of the axle shafts helps U-washer removal because discarding the rubber O-ring in the axle shaft groove needs special attention. When extracting the two axle shafts users need to avoid damaging the wheel bearing oil seal. Processively adapt the wheel bearing oil seal lip for installation by applying Premium Long-Life Grease XG-1-C or Ford-specified equivalent ESA-M1C75-B. Install the two axle shafts after positioning U-washers on their button ends while keeping shafts stretched outward. The pinion shaft requires protection with Threadlock and Sealer EOAZ-19554-AA or an equivalent meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G351-A5 before differential pinion shaft installation. The bolt thread should receive the product before the lock bolt hole line-up. Use a new differential pinion shaft lock bolt afterward performed a replacement of either brake drums or calipers. The differential housing needs 2.37 liters (5 pints) of SAE 75W-140 High Performance Rear Axle Lubricant F1TZ-19580-B which must also comply with Ford specification WSL-M2C132-A before attaching the differential cover. The last step involves cleaning all mounting surfaces on wheels and wheel hubs or brake components before resetting the wheel and tire unit.
