  • Q: How to service and repair the lower intake manifold on 2000 Ford Windstar?
    A: The service and repair process of the lower intake manifold starts with engine cooling system drainage followed by both valve cover removal. First detach the hoses before removing the ECT sensor and set the ignition coil to a side where you can remove the three spark plug wires and their connector and the bolts. The upper radiator hose requires separation after moving the rubber clamp and pulling out the hose. First remove the complete fuel injectors and fuel injection supply manifold and after that remove the thermostat and its housing. The proper reinstallation of rocker arms and push rods requires correct identification of their original positions for minimizing premature wear because you need to remove the rocker arms along with their bolts and then take out the push rods. Remove the lower intake manifold by taking out all bolts first then remove the manifold and conclude by taking out the intake manifold gaskets and end seals. Start the installation process by cleaning the sealing surfaces then install the intake manifold gaskets and front and rear seals along with a drop of Silicone Gasket and Sealant F7AZ-19554-EA or an equivalent which matches Ford specification WSE-M4G323-A4 at each of the four cylinder block-to-cylinder head seams. Install the intake manifold while starting the bolt tightening process at 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.) then finish at 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.). Install push rod assemblies then rocker arms with torque of 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.) before tightening to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs.). Install the fuel injection supply manifold after placing the fuel injectors followed by the installation of thermostat and thermostat housing. Position the upper radiator hose correctly and tighten its clamp. Set the ignition coil into place by connecting the spark plug wires and the ignition coil electrical connector then bolt it down. Begin valve cover installation by connecting the hoses and the coolant temperature sensor followed by the fuel line and concluding with both valve covers. Fill the engine cooling system before completing the process by bleeding the system.
