How to service and repair the upper control arm on 2000 Lincoln Continental?

The first step for upper control arm servicing requires power cutoff of the air suspension electrical system to stop undesired air spring inflation or deflation which might destabilize the vehicle during maintenance procedures. Place the vehicle on a hoist then take off the wheel and tire component. Remove air springs only when they have zero active pressure since doing so with live pressure is extremely hazardous to vehicle stability. Detach the air suspension height sensor both from the ball stud pin of the rear suspension arm and from the bushing before removing the lower shock absorber mounting hardware. Apply a suitably designed tie-rod end remover to loosen the upper ball joint-to-upper rear suspension arm nut while leaving it in place. The ball joint can then be separated from the rear suspension arm and bushing before removing the nut. The following process includes removing the nuts from the rear upper suspension arm-to-body relationship before removing both the rear suspension arm and bushing from the vehicle. The first step for installation requires positioning both the rear suspension arm with bushing into the vehicle before mounting the rear upper suspension arm-to-body bolts and nuts. The ball joint needs to be positioned inside the rear suspension arm and bushing before fastening a new nut on it. Also install the lower shock absorber mounting bolt and nut. The ball stud pin accepts the air suspension height sensor while the wheel and tire assembly needs to be installed before inflating air spring and lowering the vehicle and the service switch must be turned on.
