- Q: How to service and repair the front control arm on 2000 Lincoln Continental?A: Before working on the front control arm turn off the air suspension power at its switch in the RH kick panel region to avoid unwanted air spring movements. Set the vehicle on a lift platform before taking out front tire and wheel parts. Remove the connected air suspension height sensor from its plug with the front suspension unit. Take out both hardware parts from inside the front suspension lower arm until you dispose the front suspension lower arm-to-ball joint nut. Hold back the front wheel knuckle and front wheel driveshaft joint from moving too far out since overstretching can damage the joint mechanism. Separate the ball joint from the front suspension lower arm while keeping the steering column unlocked and using a suitable extractor tool to prevent seal damage. Extract and discard the front suspension lower arm inner pivot bolt and nut before removing the front suspension lower arm with its washer from the strut. Position the washer over the front suspension lower arm strut then insert the lower arm onto the strut and secure it using a new pivot bolt and nut in the front sub-frame bracket. Place the lower ball joint into the front suspension lower arm and add a fresh lower arm-to-ball joint nut. Reinstall the washer and piece at the front suspension lower arm strut while adding a new nut. Attach the air suspension height sensor if installed and put back the wheel and tire unit. Lower the vehicle and reactivate the air suspension service switch.
