- Q: How to service and repair the front control arm on 2001 Lincoln Continental?A: Use the air suspension switch in the right kick panel area to disable electrical power before working on the front control arm to avoid sudden changes to the air springs. Set the vehicle on a lift and take off the wheel-tire unit. When possible unplug the air suspension height sensor from its port on the front suspension sensor. Take out the front suspension lower arm strut nut and washer before you dispose both parts. Excessive forward extension of the wheel knuckle and shaft joint destroys the joints when you handle them. Use a proper puller to take off the front suspension lower arm's ball joint from its position by keeping the boot seal intact. To continue the process take out the front suspension lower arm inner pivot bolt and nut then separate and discard it from the strut assembly. Afterward draw out the front suspension lower arm from the strut with its washer. Install the washer onto the strut of the front suspension lower arm before fitting the lower arm onto the strut and placing it in the front sub-frame bracket using a new pivot bolt and nut. Insert the lower ball joint into the front suspension lower arm then fasten it using a brand new front suspension lower arm-to-ball joint nut. Install the washer and bolt the front suspension lower arm strut while connecting the air suspension height sensor (when equipped), reattach the wheel and tire components, bring the vehicle down, and restore air suspension service mode power.
