2000 Mercury Cougar Cruise Control Servo Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the cruise control servo on 2000 Mercury Cougar?
A: Service and repair of the cruise control servo starts with cable detachment from the engine cover followed by intake air resonator removal. The speed control cable should be disconnected from the throttle body cam before manually removing it from the throttle bracket by pushing the retaining clip and pulling out the cable. The service team should first disconnect the electrical connector of the speed control actuator followed by removing the actuator bolt in order to separate the speed control actuator. To access the speed control cable cap from the actuator one must first depress and secure the locking clip followed by turning the cap counterclockwise. The process ends by removing the speed control cable at the actuator pulley through unlocking the spring and pushing the cable out of its pulley slot. Follow the opposite steps used for removal to install the components.
