2001 Ford Ranger Radiator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the aluminum core, crossflow radiator on 2001 Ford Ranger?
A: The repair and service of the aluminum core crossflow radiator requires first draining the cooling system then disconnecting the negative battery cable. Begin by disconnecting both the rubber overflow hose and vent hose and following up with removal of the enclosure wiring terminal for electric-driven fans if they are present. The service begins by detaching the two screws which enables the fan shroud to come loose from the brackets. Finally, let the fan shroud rest on the fan blade. The service requires removing upper and lower radiator hoses next. When disconnecting transmission cooling lines because an oil cooler is present you must use a back up wrench to prevent disturbing the transmission oil cooler fitting. Slide out the radiator by removing its screws while tipping it backward followed by pulling it straight upward. The radiator should be inserted into its engine bay before adding the bolts. Premium wrench techniques should be used to attach transmission cooling lines to the radiator oil cooler fittings if present. Seal the constant tension clamps where they originally were positioned before installing the radiator hoses above and below the unit. The electric cooling fan connector installation occurs when attaching the fan cover to the radiator alongside its installment. Connect the rubber radiator overflow hose or radiator vent hose to the radiator before filling the cooling system and operating the engine for testing purposes. This check allows assessment of hose integrity and connection integrity. Finish the procedure by attaching the battery negative cable.
