Service of the left-hand side exhaust manifold requires beginning with heat shield removal when it exists. You must remove the three upper manifold nuts on the LH exhaust followed by removal of the three-way catalytic converter (TWC). The lower splash shield can be detached by uninstalling both bolts and pin-type retainers. The secondary air tube must be taken out from the exhaust manifold when it applies. Follow the exhaust manifold removal by taking off the three lower nuts first before deleting the gasket which you should discard. When installing the exhaust manifold, users must apply fresh gasket material before securing the manifold bolts at 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) then restrighten all bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.). Reinstall the secondary air tube to the exhaust manifold and then continue by placing the lower splash shield into position while using the shield and pin-type retainers and bolts. The completion of the repair requires installing both the TWC and heat shield only if these components were previously removed.
