2002 Ford Explorer A/C Condenser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the A/C Condenser without auxiliary climate control on 2002 Ford Explorer?
A: When repairing an HVAC condenser without auxiliary climate control you need to start by testing for a condenser core leak before taking it apart. You need to replace the suction accumulator solely when system dirt comes from a damaged A/C compressor or harmed suction accumulator. You must first collect the refrigerant and then take out the air cleaner housing and upper radiator sight shield. Take off the compressor manifold and tube assembly from the condenser core by breaking the nut while getting rid of the O-ring seal. Unbolt the radiator grille and take out the radiator bolt plus the three pin-type retainers. Place the radiator air deflector in front and undo the nut to take out the suction accumulator. Detach the top radiator air deflector and the condenser to evaporator line from the condenser core by taking out its threaded nut. Take out the bolts and brackets to remove both right-hand (RH) and left-hand (LH) radiator support brackets. The proper installation is shown with the RH bracket as an example. After disassembly of both sides, take out the RH and LH condenser core brackets according to the same process. Move the air deflectors to the side when uninstalling their brackets from the condenser core and separating them from it. During reinstallation reverse these steps while replacing a new condenser core with cleaned PAG oil or equivalent lubricant in all parts. All work ends with system evacuation and leak checking before refrigerant charging.
