2002 Ford Explorer Blend Door Actuator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Floor Airflow Blend Door Actuator on 2002 Ford Explorer?
A: The first procedure for servicing the air door actuator or motor for floor airflow requires deactivating the Supplemental Restraints System (SRS). Start the air door actuator/motor floor airflow service by first removing four bolts and four nuts from the floor console unit and the instrument panel center support brackets. After removing the assist handle cover bolts users should dismantle the passenger assist handle and the bolts that follow. After removing the windshield side garnish moldings you can proceed to remove the defroster opening grille. The next sequence requires removal of upper instrument panel support bolts and exterior cowl grille together with the instrument panel support bolt. First detach the two instrument panel side finish panels while lowering the glove compartment until the left-hand instrument panel side support bolts reveal half of their threads. Secure the instrument panel correctly before removing the two bolts from the right-hand support to extract the panel from the dash panel. First detach the electrical connectors and unfasten pin-type retainers and afterward remove the screw and the metal shield. Use screw removal to disconnect the vacuum connector after which you need to rotate the floor airflow vacuum control motor until it passes through the retaining arm before taking it out. Instalation occurs through the opposite steps of the removal and by reactivating the Supplemental Restraints System (SRS).
